Definiens C3 (Composition Commission Competition)

Eligible to all composers

This year we are offering two categories for our C3. We’ll be offering a Young Composers Category for people 23 and younger, as well as a General Composers Category with no age restrictions. The GCC winner will be composing a song to be premiered by Tony Arnold! Application materials must be received by January 31st 2012 . We will announce our winners in March 2012 on this webpage. Winners will be notified by email.

*Please note, GCC can submit voice and piano compositions.

C3 2010

Thank you for all the amazing submissions this year. It was exciting to get such a tremendous amount of great scores from both mature composers as well as young ones!

C3 2009

Thank you to all the composers who entered the 2009 C3. We received almost 100 scores! We’re excited to present our 2009 C3 to Doug Opel.

Doug’s new piece will be premiered at the 2010 Fresno New Music Festival on Saturday, November 6th with subsequent performances in South Pasadena, CA and Santa Monica, CA.

California Commissioning Program

In 2009 Definiens started a new program to commission composers currently living in California called the California Commissioning Program. Damian Montano recieved our first commission. In 2010 we will commission three more composers from California.
