July 11, 2010 - Definiens has received another grant from the LA County Arts Commission. This 2-year grant will fund our next two seasons of concerts!
July 5, 2010 - Sorry we haven't updated anything here in some time. We are working on a new website! It'll be done, fingers crossed, this fall as we announce our 2010-2011 season! In the meantime we are waiting on new pieces by Doug Opel, our 2009 C3 winner and Jenni Brandon! Both of these pieces will be premiered on the 2010 Fresno New Music Festival in early November. Also, this fall, musicians of Definiens will be performing David Conte's opera, America Tropical (libretto by Oliver Mayer) in October. There will be peformances at USC, the Autry National Center, and the Pico House! More details to come.
Also, we will be announcing our 2010 C3 (composition commission competition) very soon! This year we will have an Emerging Composers Category for composers up to 23 years of age.

September 17, 2009 - The Definiens Project is proud to announce that Doug Opel has been selected as our 2009 C3 (Composition Commission Competition) winner! We received more than 100 entries for our competition and are excited to begin working with Doug on a new chamber music piece to be premiered in 2010.
September 17, 2009 - The Definiens Project has also estabablished a California Commissioning Program through which we will commission multiple works throughout each year by composers currently residing in California. Our first commission was awarded to Damian Montano who just completed a work for oboe, clarinet, and bassoon. This work will be premiered by The Vientos Trio in January 2010.

July 11, 2009 - Definiens will be the Resident Ensemble of the 2009 Fresno New Music Festival! We’re excited about this opportunity where we will be performing the works of Don Freund and Adrienne Albert, both of whom are the Resident Composers this year. We’ll also be performing works by Laura Elisa Schwendinger, Michael Djupstrom, Keith Dippre, and Lembit Beecher, chosen from a call-for-scores, as well as music by our very own, Jennifer Stevenson.
July 11, 2009 - The Definiens Project is excited to announce that we’ve received a grant from the BMI Foundation, Inc this year! This grant will help our programs grow and reach more people.
June 20, 2009 - Everyone in Definiens would like to congratulate Greg Milliren, our flutist! Greg recently won the Associate Principal Flute position with the Minnesota Orchestra. We’ll miss him dearly and we wish him all the best!

March 6, 2009 - The Definiens Project is pleased to announce that we have received three Meet the Composer's Creative Connection Grants for Almer Imamovic, Allen Menton, and Joseph Trapanese. This will allow us to have these composers present at the performances of their pieces, so they may introduce their works to the audience, and be available for questions after the performance.

This year The Definiens Project received great news that we were awarded a $2000 grant from the LA County Arts Commission. However, in order to receive this funding we must supply matching funds. For this reason, we have set the goal of reaching 200 people to each give small donations of $5 or more. We hope that you will be one of those people and pass the word on to your friends and family members who are also supporters of chamber music and The Definiens Project! December 15, 2008 - The Definiens Project is pleased to announce that we have won a grant from the city of Culver City Music in Public Places Fund, and will be presenting Musical Adventure concerts at the Julian Dixon Library in Culver City from February through June. These family-oriented concerts present a story set to live chamber music, and kids and parents alike learn about music and the instruments in a fun and friendly atmoshphere. November 15, 2008 - The Definiens Project has released its 2008 Holiday Album, titled Holidays with the Definiens Project 2, to follow up with last year's highly successful offering of holiday favorites, arranged and performed by Definiens musicians.

October 10, 2008 - The Definiens Project will be presenting 8 monthly Musical Adventures (October 2008 through May 2009). We'll also be presenting 6 concerts throughout our season, as well. Both series are FREE and sponsored in part by the Pico Neighborhood Council.

June 9, 2008 - The Definiens Project completed its 4th annual Culver City Crescent concert series last weekend with great success. We wish to thank all of our audience members for supporting us by attending throughout the season. We look forward to seeing you next season!
We also wish to thank the City of Culver City, the Sony Platinum Entertainment Sponsorship, the Meet the Composer Foundation, Coldstone Creamery, and the Culver Hotel for their support of our concerts. These organizations made the series possible!
Over the summer we will be planning our 2009 Crescent series programs, including premiering numerous new commissions. In the meantime, Definiens will be presenting various concerts throughout the summer. Please check our site regularly for new dates.
April 29, 2008 - The Definiens Project is mentioned in the May 2008 issue of Gramophone, 'America's Best Classical Music Magazine'! We are quoted along with personnel from the LA Phil, LACMA, Southwest Chamber Music, and Pacific Serenades in a feature article discussing Los Angeles as a hot spot for contemporary as well as film music.
We are excited to participate in the movement to create new and exciting performance approaches to classical music that speak to today's audiences. Our May 18th program, Jazz in the Third Stream, illustrates our commitment to diversity in programming as well as performance approach.
